Savvy bidding benefits local charities
Fine jewelry, UNC basketball tickets, and local hotel stays are all up for bid at A Berry Merry Holiday Auction sponsored by the Woodcroft Women’s Club (WWC) on Friday, December 3, at the Hope Valley Farms Clubhouse.
The merriment will begin at 7 pm and will be marked by food, good cheer and serious shopping as savvy bidders vie for one-of-a-kind handcrafted goods and items from local businesses. The bid sheet will include items from Helzberg Diamonds, UNC Men's Basketball team, Doubletree hotel, and the Museum of Life & Science.
Heather Hester, our charming MC, keeps the auction running smooth.
All proceeds will benefit local charities. WWC President Cindy Streett welcomes community participation so that more money can be raised to help organizations and their clients who have been hit hard in the current economy. Last year’s auction raised $2,400 for local nonprofits, including Genesis Home, Durham Crisis Response Center, Durham Rescue Mission, and the Food Bank of Durham.
“What could be more fun than enjoying holiday festivities while also knowing you are benefitting local charities?” Streett said.
In addition to raising monies for worthy causes through a silent auction, bidders can snap a holiday photo by the tree, enjoy sparkling drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and participate in a brown bag raffle.
“This auction is like a party with delicious food and drink, good friends, an elegant holiday atmosphere, and loads of fun bidding on fabulous donated items!” Streett said.
The evening will feature a silent auction, food, and sparkling drinks.

Heather's daughter Maria takes a well deserved nap after her big day of helping mommy at the auction.
Tickets are now on sale for $5. For a successful fundraising event we need your help! All members are encouraged to sell a few tickets to friends and family. Please donate handcrafted goods such as knit baby items, blankets or scarves. Also new items for the home, jewelry, art or children's items that you'd like to donate are much appreciated! This is one of our biggest events for raising funds for local charities, so come with your family & friends! Invite everyone you know! We will have complimentary hors d'oeuvres and beverages, Brown Bag raffle, silent auction and a live auction. Enjoy wine and "champagne." Cash donations gratefully accepted. Credit cards accepted to purchase auction items.
Valerie and Heather take a break to smile for the camera at this years auction.
The event is also an opportunity to celebrate the season with other WWC members and guests. Please start saving new items or items in good condition for your donation. Handmade items are always hit— so consider making something to donate. Especially valued are knitted or crocheted items, example, baby blanket,
child's scarf & hat, man or lady's winter knit hat, etc.
Denielle Varga & Valerie DeLaurentis keep the Christmas Spirit with their usual style! (Denielle is the one with that "deer in the headlights" look. ;)
Every year the club donates all auction proceeds to local charities and raised $2,350 at the 2011 auction. Auction tickets can be purchased on site for $5. For advanced sales or more information, please contact our Auction Coordinator.
